AMUNTAI — Harvest season has brought good news for farmers in Hulu Sungai Utara (HSU) Regency, South Kalimantan. On two consecutive days, HSU Regent H. Sahrujani went into the fields to join rice harvests in Bajawit Village, South Amuntai District, and Sungai Panangah Village, Danau Panggang District.
83 Hectares in Bajawit
The Bajawit harvest took place on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, across about 83 hectares. Organized by the HSU Agriculture Office with local farmer groups, it was attended by HSU council speaker H. Fadillah, regional agency heads, the head of the HSU Statistics Office, the district head, military and police representatives, and farmers.
“We appreciate and are grateful that the harvest is quite good, across some 83 hectares of land,” Sahrujani said.
“This harvest should motivate farmers to keep increasing agricultural productivity.”

He said synergy among the regional government, technical agencies, agricultural extension workers, and farmer groups is key to overcoming the challenges facing agriculture, in support of the regency’s “HSU Bangkit” (HSU Rising) agenda.
6–7 Tons per Hectare in Sungai Panangah
The next day, Thursday, 29 October 2026, the harvest moved to Sungai Panangah Village in Danau Panggang District, the sixth in a series of rotating harvests across HSU. The results look promising: the crop-cutting survey (ubinan) recorded 4.93 kilograms, equivalent to an estimated 6 to 7 tons of unhusked rice per hectare. Varieties planted include Inpari 32, Siam Madu, and Mekongga.
Danau Panggang District has 2,315 hectares of rice fields. Of its 2026 planting target of 2,018 hectares, 2,017 hectares were planted, nearly 100 percent. In Sungai Panangah itself, 122 hectares of designated farmland have been planted, 22 hectares of which have already been harvested.
Five farmer groups in the village received rice seed aid. Farmers will also receive a rice thresher and three water pumps, which are currently being procured.
Watch Out for Floods After the Dry Season
Amid the celebrations, Sahrujani reminded everyone to prepare for the threat of flooding once the dry season ends, as well as pest attacks.
“Preparedness for changing weather is very important so its impact on agriculture can be anticipated,” he said.
For HSU’s farmers, these rolling harvests are more than ceremonies. They show that hard work in the fields and regional government support go hand in hand for local food security.
