Heavy rain on 1–2 November caused landslides, fallen trees and road collapses at eight sites in Bangli and Gianyar, Bali, cutting the Peninjoan–Bangbang road and burying four shophouses. No one was killed.

Heavy rain that fell on Gianyar and Bangli regencies, Bali, from Sunday, 1 November 2026, to Monday, 2 November 2026, triggered a series of hydrometeorological disasters. The extreme weather caused landslides, fallen trees and road collapses at eight different sites across the two regencies, without any fatalities.

Infrastructure Damaged, Roads Cut Off

In Bangli Regency, the main road linking Peninjoan and Bangbang villages in Tembuku District was completely cut off after it gave way at around 11 p.m. Central Indonesia Time on Sunday, on the stretch connecting Banjar Pulasari Kawan in Peninjoan. Bangli Police public relations head Iptu I Gede Gumiliarta said the collapse was likely because drains or culverts could not handle the volume of rainwater and the overflowing river. Road users must take a detour through Pulasari Kangin, adding three to four kilometers to the trip.

Gianyar Regency saw similar damage. At around 3 a.m. on Monday, a 15-meter-long, seven-meter-wide section of road in Banjar Gambih, Buahan Village, Payangan District, collapsed. Gianyar Police public relations head Ipda Gusti Ngurah Suardita urged residents to use alternative routes as the ground remains unstable and prone to further landslides.

Landslides Bury Shophouses and Homes

Besides cutting off transport, the extreme weather in Bangli triggered a landslide near Pura Kehen, Banjar Pekuwon, Cempaga Urban Village, at around 5 a.m. on Monday. The debris buried four shophouses owned by local residents Jro Gede Kehen (75), Ni Ketut Wariasih (58), I Ketut Wakil (63) and Ni Ketut Suratini (57), and blocked the road in front of the temple complex. Police confirmed there were no casualties.

Earlier, at 11 p.m. on Sunday, a landslide from a rice field hit a house in Banjar Tangkas, Susut Village, Susut District, Bangli, causing an estimated Rp50 million in losses. In total, the five disaster sites in Bangli caused material losses of around Rp160 million.

In Gianyar, another landslide at 1:30 a.m. in Banjar Yeh Tengah, Kelusa Village, completely blocked access to Pura Mengening and brought down PLN power cables. A landslide also covered Jalan Raya Buahan in Banjar Susut at 6 a.m., but the 40-centimeter-thick debris was cleared by a joint team by 9:45 a.m., allowing traffic to return to normal.

Responding to the string of disasters, Bangli Police Chief AKBP Anggun Adhika Putra inspected the sites and urged residents to limit travel unless necessary, especially during heavy rain and strong winds. Police have also put up warning signs and diverted traffic at several vulnerable locations.
