TARAKAN — For coastal residents of Tarakan, North Kalimantan, a road is more than a connection; it determines how smoothly their livelihoods run. That is why the 130th TNI Manunggal Membangun Desa (TMMD, Army-Community Village Development) task force of the Tarakan Military District Command (Kodim 0907/Tarakan) is building a 2.5-kilometer road from Tanjung Batu in East Mamburungan Sub-district to Pantai Amal.
The road is expected to help residents, especially fishers and seaweed farmers, in their daily work. Limited access has long been a challenge, made worse at high tide, when travel along the coastal route becomes even harder, Fokus Borneo reported.
Tough Terrain and Weather
The work is not easy. Tanjung Batu has hilly contours, red soil and swampy areas. When it rains, the ground becomes harder to traverse, so the work has to be constantly adjusted. Even so, task force personnel are pressing on toward their targets through teamwork, coordination and planning so the road delivers long-term benefits.
From Roads to a Mosque
Besides the road, TMMD 130 targets in Tarakan include drainage and the renovation of substandard homes (RTLH). The task force also repainted a mosque in the Amal area to make it cleaner and more comfortable for worship, Metro Kaltara reported.
Task force commander Lt. Col. (Inf.) Danan Wisnubrata stressed that development under the program is not only about physical infrastructure but also about meeting the community’s social needs.
Reviving Mutual Cooperation
Throughout the program, soldiers and residents have worked side by side, from road building to home renovation. This spirit of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) not only speeds up the physical work but also strengthens ties between the military and the community. With better access, coastal residents of Tanjung Batu and Pantai Amal are expected to run their fishing and seaweed farming more smoothly and prosperously.
